Surrogacy in Quebec

The therapeutic process

This is an information meeting, not a follow-up or a psychosocial or therapeutic process. The role of the professional is to inform the intended parents or the surrogate about the psychosocial and ethical implications of a surrogacy project. Certain prerequisites have been defined by law for a surrogacy project outside of Quebec to be authorized or to allow the legal establishment of parentage when all parties in the project are domiciled in Quebec, namely: that the intended parents and the surrogate mother, if she is domiciled in Quebec, have attended a meeting on the psychosocial implications and ethical issues of such a project before the start of any procreation process. It is within this context of introspection and understanding of the other that the information session on psychosocial implications and ethical issues is held.
